For Immediate Release:  30 Nanaimo children will receive bikes, helmets and locks this August thanks to the Stevie Smith Legacy Foundation’s partnership with Pink Bike. Pink Bike’s Share the Ride program raises money to provide disadvantaged children with the opportunity to experience the joy of riding by equipping them with bicycles and basic riding essentials.

“The Stevie Smith Legacy Foundation is excited to partner with Pink Bike again for Share the Ride this year to provide bikes to 30 children who may otherwise not have the opportunity to have a bicycle,” said Michelle Corfield, founder of the Stevie Smith Legacy Foundation.

The bike giveaway will take place on August 4th at the Stevie Smith Bike Park during the intermission of the Red Bull Pump Track Qualifying Races. The bikes will be distributed by professional riders with all of the children receiving the donations in attendance. To determine the recipients of the local donations, the Stevie Smith Legacy Foundation and the Nanaimo Aboriginal Association developed a set of criteria based on the founding principles of the Stevie Smith Legacy Foundation.

In addition to promoting physical activity, wellness and environmental sustainability, Share the Ride strives to give kids their first taste of independence, raise their self esteem and inspire them to believe that anything is possible. Since the program was created, Share the Ride has raised over $150,000 in donations and has brought smiles to hundreds of children around the world.

Following the tragic passing of Canada’s most accomplished downhill mountain biker in 2016, the Stevie Smith Legacy Foundation was created in his honour. The Stevie Smith Legacy Foundation assists with funding for community biking projects, such as the creation and development of the Stevie Smith Bike Park, and other initiatives that support young athletes.
